Carly and Nancy's Volunteering Expedition in Tanzania & Costa Rica

Hi Guys,

Well we have arrived in Africa and that is thanks to everyones support. It was a mad rush to get everything sorted before we left and if we didn't get a chance to say goodbye to some people we're so sorry! A Big Hug to you all and see you on the other side!!!

Before we left we bought and packaged up loads of stuff for the kids including pencils, pens, workbooks, colouring books, soccer balls, tennis balls, a digital camera, stickers and teaching aids (Thank you Tracey) lots of childrens clothes (which were kindly donated by Anne-Maree, Simona, Amanda). We have uploaded photos of all the items so you can see it all and Nancy's Mum will be freighting it over to us for our arrival (we tried carrying it on our heads but haven't mastered the art!)

Thank you for helping us raise the funds for our projects and to buy all the resources!

Movie Tickets- If you would still like to help out or said you would like to buy movie tickets but didn't get a chance we still have alot left over. Nancy's Mum has them and would be happy to get them to you. You can call her on 0410 543 500 or email us and we will arrange it! Remember all the great Summer Movies out!!

Our aim is to raise enough funds to support our volunteer work in Tanzania and Costa Rica. We will be volunteering at each project for six weeks and as well as our time, each project is in need of resources such as teaching aids, toys, games and living materials, which we will be taking with us to the project.

Nancy and Carly will both be at this project for six weeks.
Our day to day tasks will include teaching at the Peace Matunda School, getting the children ready for school, housekeeping, preparing the childrens meals and finding new ways to fundraise to support the orphanage.

Peace Matunda Orphanage and Children’s Centre’s mission is to provide orphans and children living in difficult conditions with basic education, proper housing, adequate health care and nutrition along with daily necessities to ensure them a better quality of life and prosperous future. Our orphanage, primary school and preschool are situated in Kimundo village outside the town Tengeru, 20 km from Arusha on the slopes of Mount Meru in Tanzania, Africa.

Peace Matunda Orphanage and Children’s Centre is a division of the Matunda Cultural Tourism Project, a non-governmental and non-profit organization that runs under the management of Mfulony villagers through their representatives.

Costa Rica - Centro Infantil Hogarcito De San Ramón

Carly will be at this project for six weeks.
Task include caring for the children and teaching them basic skills such as teaching English, planning recreational activities as well as sports activities, helping at dinner times, basic life skills. This project also involves working with teenagers and adults by helping them with basic English and planning recreational activities for the community.

The Hogarcito's (Orphanage/Foster Centre's) are shelters where the children have been removed from their families due to various reasons such as neglect or abuse. The shelters have very few resources and rely on donations and volunteers.

Costa Rica - La Marina Wildlife Rescue Center

Nancy will be at this project for six weeks
Tasks will include cleaning the animals' cages, preparing food, assisting with feeding the animals, building and repairing cages and walkways, and assisting with the general maintenance tasks.

La Marina Rescue centre concentrates on the care of over 84 species of animals. Some animals have been maltreated, starved and put in situations of high stress. At the centre they are given the care and attention they would otherwise not receive. It is not officially funded and volunteers therefore can make a massive difference by caring for the animals and maintaining/improving the facilities.
